This year marks the Maserati Ghibli 50th Anniversary which were limited editions produced from the late 1960s – 1973.
This Sunday 5th March 2017, the Maserati club will be fielding a quality range of classic Maserati’s including several Ghibli’s.
The Stand out Ghibli is the one previously owned by Bob Jane (Well known Australian racing car driver and tyre magnate)
Bobs car was purchased by the current president of the Maserati Owners’ Club of Australia John Gove who has provided the following background on the car’s history:
“My car is the 1969 Earl’s Court Motor Shoe card and it was purchased off
the floor by Bob Jane who was attending the show (and there’s quite a story
around that!). Bob drove it around Europe for a while before bringing it
back to Australia. It is listed by the factory as an original Australian
delivery car which Bob picked up at the factory. It was one of only 4
Ghibli’s originally sold in Australia. Of course, Bob had quite a history
with Maserati and in the late 50’s and early 60’s he raced a 300S
extensively including, Bathurst, Phillip Island and Albert Park. I believe
the 300S was previously raced by Stirling Moss in Australia before Bob
purchased it. He still owned it when he purchased the Ghibli.”
